We currently have an unprecedented number of rats in sanctuary care! Read more about them here. Of those, many have ongoing medical needs. Our most pressing needs are below:

• New Arrivals: At the beginning of June, we, along with Little Critter Crew, and A Pint-Sized Rescue, rescued a large group of rats being housed in a metal shed near Seaside, OR. The original group consisted of 60 rats ranging from adolescents to adults, plus a number of litters and many pregnant females. We tended to the medical emergencies and completed 5 spay/aborts. At least 11 of the rats will stay as sanctuary residents, while the majority of adoptable rats and litters will be available through our partner rescues. Please give them some love as well!
• Recent and Upcoming Surgeries: We spayed five of the Seaside rats, plus Pipsy and Obie, girls from the Division rescue last year, who returned to RWS after their adopter surrendered them back to Little Critter Crew. Hot Pocket also had surgery to remove a large abscess from her abdomen.
• Chronic Care: Many of our residents are on long term medications due to control chronic medical issues (heart failure, respiratory disease, arthritis, HLD, etc.) and require medication refills and regular vet visits to monitor their conditions.
• Spay Fund: We need to beef up our medical fund in anticipation of spays for our residents! Spays are some of the hardest things to fundraise for, but they are crucial to the health and wellbeing of our female residents. This is something we provide to every one of our eligible ladies to protect them against reproductive diseases, mammary masses, pituitary tumors, and more!
