Here’s what’s going on:

We currently have 38 rats in sanctuary care. Read more about them here. Of those, many have ongoing medical needs. Our most pressing needs are below:

New Arrivals: Our newest arrivals are Gertrude and Gracie, naked sisters who suffered a lifetime of neglect and abuse. Also Holly, a young girl who was brought to a white elephant gift exchange, and Eem Thai BBQ, a baby girl found outside of her namesake restaurant.
Emergency Care: Gertie and Gracie both have respiratory disease and mammary masses. Both girls had emergency visits to get their respiratory symptoms controlled, and Gracie underwent surgery to remove her large mass on Jan 15th. Lichen had an emergency visit on Jan 10th to assess two new masses.
Foster Updates: Zim recently had intensive care for severe pneumonia, but she is doing much better now and finally completely off oxygen and back with her rat buddies!
Recent and Upcoming Surgeries: Bella is finally healed after her mass removal in December. on Gracie is recovering from a mass removal on Jan 15th. Pizza Bagel and Snow Day have their spays scheduled on Jan 21st, and Bella’s spay is scheduled for Jan 28th. Gertie is pending a surgery date to remove her mammary masses, and both Gertie and Gracie need spays.
Chronic Care: Many of our residents are on long term medications due to control chronic medical issues (heart failure, respiratory disease, arthritis, HLD, etc.) and require medication refills and regular vet visits to monitor their conditions.
Spay Fund: We need to beef up our medical fund in anticipation of spays for our residents! Spays are some of the hardest things to fundraise for, but they are crucial to the health and wellbeing of our female residents. This is something we provide to every one of our eligible ladies to protect them against reproductive diseases, mammary masses, pituitary tumors, and more!
